After tear pricked eyes, telephone tantrums and blind panic we have finally got our campervan BOOKED!
We wanted the white van for 4 days so we could drive The Great Ocean Road from Adelaide to Melbourne, firstly they told us 10 days minimum. So that was our first panic. The Ginger Giant in Piccadilly’s STA suggested we hire a car – the thought ran through our minds; open top jeep with wind in our hair and the open road before us. The panic turned to excitement.
After waiting a whole day for the car company to reply, they told us if we picked up our Barbie Jeep from Adelaide we had to return it to Adelaide – well what is the point of that!! This second panic set in. Adam promised he would come up with some ideas and ring me back. We could get the Greyhound Bus to Melbourne but where was the freedom and map reading in that. As hip and I got more nervy I decided to drag myself out of bed and into STA for the third time this week.
Thankfully Adam was at desk 2 where we had left him 2day earlier. I found myself completely going into one about how much we desparately needed our very own set of wheels so Adam calmly started calling people and searching online. As he gave me a price for the 10 day minimum (£500!) campervan hire, I pleaded with him to see if we could have it for 7 days – if you don’t ask you don’t get! And there it was…. popping up on the screen.. the quote for 7 days. So much for 10 day minimum rental! Whatever.
£397 7 nights pick up from Adelaide return to Melbourne. Sounds a lot. Divide by 2 = £198.50. Subtract £10 a night for a hostel = £128.50 each. Not too bad when we now have our very own love-wagon complete with a beer fridge, microwave, air con, power steering, gas stove and double bed, with a kids single on the top. Our very own set of wheels, total Independence, freedom, flexibility to hit the road and do it like real Sheilas!
I just hope I can find the paper part of my licence now. – Panic three ?

Hi,
Wonderful explanation of your travel mode. When you return at a later date check out accommodation on our site and drive a car.
Youth is a wonderful time to do it by van.
Cheers
Tim
